In the life-saving world of medicine, the High Dependence Unit (HDU) is where the most advanced technology and the highest level of clinical monitoring meet. At Kabarole Hospital C.O.U, we recognize that providing comprehensive critical care is essential to fulfilling our mission of “Improving life and promoting health in spirit, body, and soul.”
As we celebrate over 120 years of service in Fort Portal, the development of a modern intensive care department is a primary focus of our Centennial Infrastructure Renewal. We are committed to ensuring that patients in the Tooro region who require specialized life support do not have to endure the risks and costs of traveling to distant facilities in Kampala.
Advancing Critical Care Capabilities
Currently, Kabarole Hospital provides high-dependency support through our specialized general surgery and maternity departments. However, to meet the rising demand for emergency services and trauma care, we have embarked on a strategic expansion:
- Guided by its mission of service, Kabarole Hospital is seeking the support of faith partners, friends, and donors to raise funds for a modern ICU and oxygen plant, ensuring critically ill patients receive timely, life-saving care.
- Infrastructure Renewal: As of mid-2025, our hospital construction projects reached over 70% completion, including the modernization of clinical spaces designed to house advanced life-support systems.
- Neonatal Intensive Care: A key component of our vision is the establishment of a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). Recent 2025 donations, including infant cribs and phototherapy units from the Sonic Healthcare Foundation, are the first building blocks in our commitment to specialized care for vulnerable newborns.
Why a Dedicated ICU Matters
A functional ICU at Kabarole Hospital will transform health outcomes for our community by providing:
- Continuous Monitoring: Around-the-clock observation by a dedicated team for patients recovering from major surgical care or severe trauma.
- Advanced Respiratory Support: Integrated oxygen systems and ventilators to manage acute respiratory distress.
- Local Expertise: Keeping families together by treating critical conditions right here on Kabarole Hill, reducing the clinical delays associated with referrals.
Join Us in Building a Healthier Future
The journey to a fully equipped High Dependence Unit is a shared mission. We invite our partners, alumni, and well-wishers to support the Kabarole Hospital Centennial Fund as we finalize this vital facility. Together, we can ensure that every patient in our care has access to the life-saving technology they deserve.
