At Kabarole Hospital C.O.U, the mission of healing extends beyond physical treatment, embracing the foundational principle of holistic care. As an institution run by the Anglican Church of Uganda, the hospital’s core commitment is explicitly defined as: “To Improve Life, promote health as we envisage the whole person with a soul, body and spirit and to accord due diligence to the disadvantaged and less privileged”. This ensures that the spiritual dimension is integral to all aspects of the hospital’s operation, reflecting the legacy of the early Christian missionaries who established the facility in 1903.
The Chaplaincy Department plays a central and strategic role in fulfilling this mission. The Chaplain is an integral member of the hospital’s governance structure, serving on the Core Management Committee (CMC) alongside the Medical Superintendent and Administrator, thereby integrating spiritual perspectives into the highest level of administrative decision-making. Furthermore, the strategic plans developed by the hospital explicitly prioritize “taking care of spiritual needs” as a critical activity necessary to uphold the hospital mission, ensuring that patient support and service delivery minister to the full needs of the patient body, mind, and spirit. The inclusion of the Chaplaincy guarantees that Kabarole Hospitla C.O.U remains rooted in its mission as a faith-based health provider.
As a church-founded hospital, Kabarole Hospital C.O.U. held its Annual Christmas Carols service to give thanks and celebrate the joy, hope, and love of Christ’s birth. Led by the Dean of St. John’s Cathedral, Rev. Robert Abigaba Atwooki, the gathering united staff, patients, and the community in praise, fellowship, and the true spirit of Christmas on the 19th December 2025.
